ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle treatments consist of a purified protein which is injected into specific muscles of the face that contribute to dynamic wrinkles (lines that occur from repetitive facial movements when the muscle is contracted), and cause the chemical signal from the brain to the muscle to become blocked which allows for a more youthful and refreshed look.

How long does it last and when will I see results?
Anti-wrinkle injections can last from 3 to 4 months depending on the metabolic and lifestyle factors of each individual, and results can start becoming visible from 3 days, with the maximum effect occurring at 10 to 14 days after the initial treatment.

Is it painful?
Numbing agents are not generally used for anti-wrinkle treatments as it is such a quick procedure which uses a very fine needle, however, topical anaesthetic can be applied if needed to ensure that your treatment experience is comfortable. Please be mindful that everybody’s pain threshold is different and what may be painful for one person, may not be painful for another.

Are there any side effects?
After your anti-wrinkle treatment, you are likely to experience redness, minor swelling, tenderness and the potential of bruising. We recommend to avoid touching or massaging the area for 24 hours, avoid the consumption of alcohol and exercise for 24 hours and avoid laying down for at least 4 hours post treatment as this can cause potential migration or ptosis of the anti-wrinkle product and increase the risk of bruising. Make-up application should also be avoided for 24 hours after your treatment to reduce the risk of infection.

Due to Australian Regulations, we are unable to mention any brand names of injectable products that we use, however, we only use the highest quality prescription-only medicine that is available in Australia. If you have any further questions you are more than welcome to message us or book a complimentary consultation with Nurse Kaitlyn to discuss.

DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance that are injected into soft tissue in various areas of the face which assist in restoring or creating structure, volume, hydration, definition and symmetry, as well as smoothing lines and wrinkles. As collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production in the body decrease over time, dermal fillers can be a simple way of providing a refreshed, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance to the face.

How long do they last?
They can last anywhere from 6 months up until 2 years depending on the type of dermal filler used, as well as differing metabolic and lifestyle factors of each individual.

When will I see results?
Results can be seen immediately post treatment, however, there may be some bruising and/or swelling present which can take up to two weeks to reside and up to four weeks for the dermal filler to integrate and soften within the tissue.

Is it painful?
A high quality, medical grade topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied prior to commencing treatment and the dermal filler itself has local anaesthetic contained within it to ensure that the treatment is tolerable and the patient is comfortable throughout. Please be mindful that everybody’s pain threshold is different and what may be painful for one person, may not be painful for another.

What if I have an upcoming event?
We recommend if you have an important event coming up that you book four weeks prior, as this ensures that you have enough time to heal and have a follow-up appointment if you require it.

Are there any side effects?
After the treatment, you are likely to experience redness, swelling, bruising, however this will diminish as the dermal filler continues to integrate and soften within the tissue. We recommend avoiding alcohol consumption and exercise for 24 hours post treatment as this can cause the filler to migrate, as well as increase bruising and swelling. Make-up application should be avoided for 24 hours post treatment as this can increase the risk of infection. We also suggest icing the area post treatment as this causes the blood vessels to constrict and slow the flow of blood to injection sites which can help to reduce bruising.

Due to Australian Regulations, we are unable to mention any brand names of injectable products that we use, however, we only use the highest quality prescription-only medicine that is available in Australia. PDO THREADS

What are PDO threads?

PDO threads are fine needles that contain threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO) which are inserted into your skin and removed to leave behind the thread in the skin which then stimulates collagen production and growth. They are used to strengthen and tighten the skin, improve skin elasticity and smooth fine lines. They can also be used to add volume to an area.

When can someone benefit from threads?
Threads can be used for patients whom have had dermal filler and are at optimal volume, as well as being used simultaneously with filler. If you have an overall youthful complexion, such as only having lines around your nasolabial & marionette areas of your face, threads are a good option in comparison with filler as there is only so much filler you can add before it start to get too bulky. For patients whom are not a candidate for tear trough filler but have fine lines under the eyes, threads can be a good substitute for the area to stimulate collagen production and improve fine lines as a result.

What is the difference between mono threads and double screw threads?
Mono threads are smooth, tiny threads that are implanted into the skin and released, leaving the thread in the body which can help to stimulate collagen. Double screw threads are wrapped around the needle to create a twist in the thread, and this twist creates a larger inflammatory response than the smaller mono threads, which results in a higher amount of collagen being produced. Double screws are a good option where a stronger hold is needed, such as above the eyebrows or in nasolabial folds.

What areas can they be used for?
Threads can be used all over the face, including: Tear troughs, forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines, cheek hollowing, cheek crepiness/accordion lines, nasolabial folds, perioral lines, temples and for a chin & neck lift. They can also be used on other areas of the body such as hands, stomach, knees and butt lift

What can I expect during the treatment?
The treatment area will be numbed prior to the threads being inserted using a medical grade topical local anaesthetic. The process of inserting & removing the threads however is relatively quick.

Can I get dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections with threads?
Yes, threads can be used simultaneously with dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections and PRP treatments. You can also get dermal filler or anti-wrinkle in the same appointment as threads. If we are performing a brow lift with threads, we recommend treating the area together with anti-wrinkle injections so that optimal results can be achieved.

How long will it take to heal?
There is little to no downtime with threads and post treatment you are able to continue with your normal routine. You may experience minor bruising, redness and swelling which is a similar experience to dermal filler treatments.

    When will I see results?
Along with other skin treatments that stimulate skin cell and collagen production (e.g. PRP), threads also depend on your body’s own ability to grow collagen. The collagen reproduction cycle is normally 12 weeks and this is the same time frame that it can generally take for you to see results. As with PRP treatments, the results vary depending on the individual and how your body reacts to the threads.

    SKIN NEEDLING

    What is skin needling?
Skin needling is used to stimulate collagen and elastin production by using multiple, fine needles that create small punctures in the skin which can reduce the appearance of scarring, fine lines and wrinkles and allow for a more rejuvenated and refreshed look.

What skin needling device do we use?
At SKYE Cosmetic Clinic, we use the latest micro-needling dermal pen which has a scar setting to reduce the appearance of deep, atrophic scars such as surgical scars, burn contractures, striae (stretch marks) and post-acne scars. It can also be used to reduce the appearance of pigmentation and sagging/lax skin.

As the dermal pen uses disposable needle cartridges, it significantly reduces the risk of cross-contamination to allow for a much safer and more comfortable treatment. The adjustable needle depth also allows for a customised treatment that is tailored to your specific needs and requirements. Our dermal pen is gentle on the skin, and causes less trauma & minimal epidermal damage, therefore reducing the pain and discomfort that patients may feel, whilst still boasting such amazing results!

    What areas can be treated?
The dermal pen can treat areas such as the face, under the eyes, neck, décolletage, hands, scalp, as well as most other areas of the body.

    Is it painful?
A high quality, medical grade topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied prior to commencing skin needling to ensure that the treatment is tolerable and that you are comfortable throughout. Please be mindful that everybody’s pain threshold is different and what may be painful for one person, may not be painful for another.

What can I expect post procedure?
After your skin needling treatment you may notice dryness, redness, mild scabbing, itchiness or tightness of the skin, however this will generally subside within a few days.

    Are there any contraindications?
Skin needling is not recommended if you have active acne or if you are taking anticoagulant therapy (“blood thinning” medication).

    Chemical Peel Q&As

    Are there any side effects?
You may experience redness, dryness, flaking, temporary darkening of the skin and mild irritation for a few days post treatment. Peeling and crusting of the skin can last up to 10 days.

    Are there any contraindications?
Contraindications of chemical peels include pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infections and roaccutane in the last six months.

Prior to your treatment, it is recommended to follow these pre-treatment instructions:

    • No skin treatments, exfoliation treatments or resurfacing procedures such as laser, IPL, microdermabrasion, skin needling, dermaplaning, AHA, BHA or Vitamin A treatments within the last two weeks
    • No cosmetic injections (anti-wrinkle & dermal filler) within the last two weeks
    • No waxing in the area to be treated within the last 48 hours

After your treatment, it is recommended to follow these post-treatment instructions:

    • You MUST apply SPF 30+ sun protection after all treatments to protect your skin from sun damage.
    • Avoid sun exposure for 48 hours
    • Avoid chlorinated water, saunas, spas for 48 hours
    • Do not use BHA, AHA's or retinoids until the peeling subsides, usually after 10 days.
    • Do not pick, exfoliate or scratch the treated area
    • Wash skin with gentle cleanser, DO NOT use toners/alcohol/skincare with active ingredients such as AHA, BHA or retinoids, apply moisturiser such as Vitamin B, Vitamin E or hyaluronic acid-based moisturisers to keep the skin hydrated.

    PLATELET-RICH PLASMA THERAPY

    What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy rejuvenates your skin by injecting an extract of your own blood that contains a high concentration of platelets, active proteins and growth factors that are vital for tissue regeneration and healing. Poor skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, sagging and uneven tone generally reflect aged and damaged tissues, therefore PRP is a useful and natural intervention that aids with tissue and collagen stimulation and is also the leading treatment in hair restoration.
Collagen tissue is detrimental to giving our skin its youthful, soft and spongy texture, however, unfortunately as we age, collagen production in the body starts to slow. Platelet-rich plasma is convenient and effective for collagen and elastin production as dermal fillers cannot directly address the texture and health of collagen tissue, although they can be used in conjunction with PRP. Across all treatment areas such as surgery, sports medicine, orthopaedics, dental and aesthetics, there are over 5000 published scientific research papers that have proven that PRP is effective for tissue regeneration and improved healing.

What can I expect during the treatment?
Blood is drawn from your arm and placed into a centrifuge where the blood is spun to separate the red blood cells, plasma and platelets. Medical grade topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area to ensure that the procedure is tolerable and comfortable. The platelet rich plasma is then extracted and injected into the main areas of concern such as the face to encourage collagen production and new skin cells, or the scalp to encourage new hair growth. This can be performed using micro needles or a five point crystal injector. The five point crystal injector can also be used on the scalp.

    Skin Rejuvenation:
PRP can be used to treat the tone, elasticity and texture of the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, minimise the appearance of scars, reduce dark circles and hollows under the eyes, decrease signs of sun damaged and aged skin, promote even skin tone and texture and address mild collagen and volume loss. It can also be used to treat the neck, décolletage, back of the hands and stretch marks on various areas of the body (breasts, abdomen, thighs and buttocks). When PRP is injection back into the skin layers, it initiates a local stem cell response. In the next weeks and months post treatment, these stem cells assist in forming new collagen structure and blood vessels, repair and regenerate damaged skin, and help delay and reverse the signs of ageing to create healthy skin that looks refreshed and rejuvenated.

    Hair Restoration:
PRP can be injected into the scalp which causes miniaturised hair follicles to become more healthier and larger and produce more robust hair growth. PRP causes the activation of follicular progenitor cells (adult stem cells) and promotes angiogenesis and localised cell growth. PRP is effective for both male and female pattern hair loss.

    When will I see results?
Immediately post treatment the skin may feel tighter than it usually is and fine lines and wrinkles will appear minimised. After 4 days, the tightness will subside, however the PRP will continue working beneath the surface of the skin to form new skin cells and improve the subsurface layers of the skin. Generally after 3 weeks, the hydration, texture and tone of the skin will have an overall improvement, and between 3 and 6 weeks, new collagen and blood vessels have formed to improve the appearance of the skin. Fine lines and skin elasticity will continue to improve for months following the treatment, and the effects of PRP can last 12 months to 2 years. Results vary depending on the individual, and although PRP cannot provide immediate volume like dermal fillers can, it can provide patients with a more youthful and rejuvenated complexion that has longer term benefits to the skin.

How often should I receive treatments?
Published research and our Doctors' results have shown that the best results are achieved by a series of 3 treatments at 4 to 6 week intervals. It is also recommended to have one treatment per year to maintain results. Depending on the patient's age, some patients choose to return every six months rather than yearly.

    INTRAVENOUS (IV) INFUSION THERAPY

Intravenous (IV) Infusion Therapy is used to deliver vitamins, minerals and amino acids directly into the bloodstream by using an intravenous drip in conjunction with 1000mL of hydrating fluids and electrolytes. As the IV fluids and essential nutrients bypass the digestive system (gut and liver) and immediately enter the blood stream, this enables maximum absorption of nutrients that the body needs by nourishing it at the cellular level. They safely deliver a larger dose of vitamins and minerals than supplements and improve the body’s system functions by rehydrating and replenishing the body. As well as using intravenous infusions, we also offer intravenous push infusions that contain vitamins, minerals and amino acids without the 1000mL of hydrating fluids and electrolytes. Depending on the patients individual lifestyles and needs, we offer several different types of IV Therapies that can improve energy levels, encourage healing by accelerating post-workout muscle recovery, strengthen the immune system or boost collagen levels for glowing skin.

    HYDRODERMABRASION

Hydrodermabrasion works by exfoliating the skin to eliminate dead skin cells. It uses suction power that is infused with water to extract impurities from the pores, remove dead skin cells and replenish lost moisture whilst exfoliating. Water solubles can be added to the water for a more targeted and tailored treatment to suit each individual. It is aimed at brightening the skin's complexion and unclogging pores whilst avoiding irritation. Hydrodermabrasion is suitable for all skin types including those who suffer from sensitive skin. There is no downtime therefore you can resume your daily activities immediately after your treatment. Hydrodermabrasion treatments can be performed every 2 to 4 weeks.

    FAT DISSOLVING

    What is fat dissolving?
Fat dissolving is a procedure that involves injecting medicine to cause lipolysis - the destruction of fat cells. It is intended to remove or "dissolve" pockets of unwanted fat that cannot be removed with weight loss, it is therefore not for bulk fat removal.

    Is it permanent?
Fat dissolving permanently destroys and removes some of your unwanted fat cells. Once they've been destroyed they can never come back, however, you can still increase weight if you do not watch your diet.

    What areas can be treated?
Double chin (submental fat), armpits, bra line, arms, abdomen, love handles, buttocks, thighs and knees.

    When will I see results?
Within 2 weeks, the treated area will slowly begin to soften and any minor bruising will resolve and the fatty tissue thickness will gradually begin to decrease. Most people begin to notice contour improvement around week 4. The maximum fat loss occurs between the 6th and 8th week, and this is when the maximum changes in contours are noted. As it takes your body up to 12 weeks to fully remove the dissolved fat, permanent improvements continue to occur up to this time. Slight lumpiness can sometimes be felt in the treated areas during the first 10 weeks as the body prepares the fat cell contents for elimination.

How many treatments will I need?
You may need from 1-3 treatments and depending on treated area and the desired effect, treatments can be repeated 6-8 weeks apart.

    Is it painful?
A high quality, medical grade topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied prior to commencing treatment and the fat dissolving medicine itself has local anaesthetic contained within it to ensure that the treatment is tolerable and the patient is comfortable throughout. Please be mindful that everybody’s pain threshold is different and what may be painful for one person, may not be painful for another.

    Are there any side effects?
Like other injectable treatments, post treatment you are likely to experience redness, swelling, bruising or tenderness.

    HYDROJELLY MASK FACIAL

    What are HydroJelly Masks?
HydroJelly masks are a new generation mask that are boosted with pure algae, actives and new electrolyte technology. One of the most common culprits of dry skin is an electrolyte imbalance. The skin cannot absorb or retain water without the proper balance of electrolytes. The key is infusion of electrolytes: Potassium, Magnesium, Sodium, Chloride, Phosphorus, Bicarbonate & Sodium Pyrophosphate. These electrolytes help the skin achieve a natural moisture balance that is essential to keep the skin healthy, and in great working order.
At SKYE Cosmetic Clinic, we stock a range of HydroJelly facial masks that are tailored to target each of our patient's skin concerns.
